Profile
Eng Gunawardena holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree, specialized in Civil Engineering (1991) and Postgraduate Diploma in (Highway Construction & Traffic Engineering) (1996) awarded by University of Moratuwa. He also holds Diploma in Commercial Arbitration, Business Management and Human Rights. In recognition of the dedicated services rendered by Eng Gunawardena to the fraternity of Engineering, he was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Engineering Management by American National Business University in 2023
He is a Chartered Civil Engineer (Sri Lanka and India), an International Professional Engineer and a Chartered Professional Manager (Sri Lanka). He holds Fellow Memberships of Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, American Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers (UK), Cambridge Association of Managers, Institute of Chartered Professional Managers, Sri Lanka and United Kingdom Association of Professionals, United Kingdom.
He has over 37 years of extensive experience in the private and government sectors. He commenced his career as a Site Engineer and gradually promoted up to the Managing Director of a reputed construction company in Sri Lanka. Thereafter, he joined the State Sector and served as the Director (Advisory Services) of Construction Industry Development Authority, as the Chief Manager (Technical Services), Bank of Ceylon and as the Deputy Chief Executive Office, Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka. He is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Construction Association of Sri Lanka.
He has served as a Member of Board of Directors of several government institutions and as a Member of Cabinet appointed Procurement Committees. He has also taken part in several local and foreign conventions and actively participated in several social activities.
